Kitchen Table Conversations

Voices for Mallee has adopted Kitchen Table Conversations (KTC) as the best possible way to give voters a real voice and deliver authentic democracy. The idea is simple and powerful and everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

The conversations enable people to express their ideas and views in a safe space, have them listened to, recorded and delivered to elected representatives. It’s a ‘bottom up’ approach to democracy rather than ‘top down’ dictated by political parties.

The thoughts, issues and ideas expressed in the Kitchen Table Conversations will become an important document, the “Voice of Mallee” to be used in advocacy for our electorate.

What are Kitchen Table Conversations?

Kitchen Table Conversations (KTC) are being used by ‘Voices’ groups across Australia.

Inspired by the success of the Voices 4 Indi story, groups of up to ten participants gather in a safe and friendly environment, to share ideas on a number of themes.

The aim is to gather views from a cross section of community members. This will include a balance of genders, socioeconomic groups, cultural groups, age groups, disability groups, etc.

Gatherings are typically held in the home, a café or public meeting space or, in recent times, online. Each meeting has a host or moderator and at least one scribe to capture the conversation.
