Is democracy working in Australian politics?

Do you feel disenfranchised by party politics in Australia?

Do you feel our leaders are out of touch with the things that matter to you?

When you look at Federal Parliament, do you see an honest reflection of our community?

Welcome to Voices for Mallee: a community-based Co-operative, embracing democracy and committed to having your voice represented without the interference of party politics.

The Voices for Mallee committee was set up by 20 or so people during 2020/21 to provide a simple and effective process by which people across the electorate can give voice. Where their interests, concerns and ideas are heard, respected and taken up by candidates presenting for election.

Inspired by the success of the Voices 4 Indi story, we believe that each one of us can play a constructive part in lifting standards of behaviour in politics, focusing on ideas and policies and strengthening the way we are represented.

We believe that by increasing participation in democratic processes and by diverse voices speaking up and being heard, we will improve our political representation and build a parliament that truly reflects our community.

What are we doing to boost democracy in the Mallee?

Voices For Mallee has adopted Kitchen Table Conversations as the best way to give voters a real voice and deliver authentic democracy.

Our collective ‘Voices’ will be compiled into a document outlining what is important to the Mallee community. This will be made available to our current political representative and anyone standing for the seat with an invitation to respond to our ‘Voices’.
